Post 15-Final Reflection

PLN Summary

Well my PLN has come a long way. I have added some more websites that I visit regularly and I have put in some different colors. I still use it everyday. I love having everything I need all in one spot and not having to type it all in. I set one up for a friend because she liked mine so much.

Classroom Chronicles
by: Henrietta Miller-This post is entitled, "Hacking the System." It talks about not having time to get everything done and finding ways of doing it. The blog talks about some tips that a person with an busy schedule can use.
1. Get someone else to do it
2. Automate it
3. Pay someone else to do it
4. Make it redundant
5. Don't do it
6. Do it so you don't have to do it again in a long time
7. Clear everything and do it in a big concentrated block
I commented and said thanks for the post and that those little tips sure did help. I am always on the go and I seem to have a hard time setting down and just doing things that need to get done. I said I will take this tips and put them to good use now and when I am a teacher.

The second post I read was about classroom spaces. She talked about how she is setting up the classroom in different ways and seeing if it works. The different areas include:

• Quiet please, genius at work
• Group work station
• Thinking space
• Quiet please, I need to think today
• Feel free to join us
• Do not disturb we are concentrating
• I need help today

I commented and said this seems like a good idea and I can't wait to have a classroom of my own so I can try using this method. I think it will work out for the best.

Blog Post #14-Special Assignement on Metaphors

1. Why did you miss the metaphor in Tom Johnson's post, or, if you "hit the nail on the head", why do you think you understood the metaphor and why do you think that others in the class missed the metaphor?
-I don't know why I missed it. I guessI am just so use to seeing them that I just didn't think anything about it.

2. What metaphors have you encountered since I asked you to create a log of them?
-I don't think I have encountered any lately but one of my favorite is "it's raining cats and dogs".
3. What other things can we do as educators to help our students to understand and to use metaphors?
-I think letting students try and making some up themselves and having worksheets

4. Why do we use metaphors?
-I looked up the defination of it and it says, Metaphors expand our way of thinking about things. It requires one to use prior knowledge to decipher the real meaning of what is being stated.

Blog Post #13

ALEX is a program set up by The State Department of Education. This site was created for teachers to share information with others. There are many things on the site that are of use. The site has lesson plans that you can access and many pod-cast. I got on there and looked around. You can get on an put in a grade level and it gives you education material for that specific grade level. ALEX  is a great resource for students and parents as well. There is a lot of free information. I had a project in another class and I looked on the site to get ideas for it. It is really easy to assess and navigate around. I will definitely use this site in the future!!

C4C Summary

-My 1st classmate's blog I posted on was Trey Mohler's blog. His post was about his Smartboard presentation. He talked about how much he enjoyed working on it and what all he learned. I said I too loved playing around with it and making a presentation to show. I cant wait to have this in my future classroom and have all my students interact with it!

-My 2nd post to a fellow student was on Brittany Mitchell's. She did her project 9 Timecoast on dog treats. I commented and said that is a cool idea. I have 3 dogs and I would love to make some homemade treats for them!
My 3rd classmate that I commented on was Nicole Wilson. Her blog post was about Tom Johnson's blog, Don't let them take the Pencils home. She talked about how schools are only teaching children how to pass a standardized test and nothing else. I agreed with her and said I think students need to know how to involve critical thinking into their schooling as well as outside the classroom. Without critical thinking and other skills needed for their future education, such as college, the students will have a hard time performing in the classrooms and maintaining good grades.

-My 4th classmate's blog I posted on was Matthew Poirier. His post was assignment 14 where we had to teach some one something. Matthew did a video on how to blog and everything involved. I said it was a great video and I wish I could have had this in the beginning when I first started blogging!
-My 5th classmate's blog I posted on was JT Rawls. I noticed that he has not been on since February and has no other assignments. I didn't know what to do, but I just read his last post about teaching in the 21st century. He talked about how teachers need to help students learn to use the web when looking up information and not just expect them to know how. I wrote and said I agree that they need to show the students sites that are acceptable for sources.

Final Project Post

As of now I do not have anything in mind for my final project. I have been really busy with school work, but  I am thinking about doing some type of "how to" movie. I plan on collaborating with a fellow student and getting to work on this project!

Project 14

Special Post

- Mr. McClung is a big supporter of using technology in the schools/classrooms and he uses his blog for Social Studies and his cross country team.  I think that Mr. McClung uses his blog because he is wanting to include technology in his instruction and I think he does it very well.  He also uses his blog as a newsletter for parent and his students to let them know the approaching projects or assignments.
- Mr. McClung seems like a great teacher. He has respectable rules and expectations.  He expects his students to come to class everyday ready to learn and have postive energy. He wants his students to learn from one another and to not be afraid to speak up in class. I think these are great expectations and I hope to use these in my classroom as well!
- I believe that all students should have a calendar or a daily planner. This is very important because it can keep everyone on track and it also lets you know what is coming up in the next couple of days or weeks that needs to get done. I myself have a planner and I couldn't live without it!
- According to Mr. McClung, each day that the work is late a letter grade is lowered.  If late on the fourth day, it is a failing grade on the assignment.  Dr. Strange's  penalty for late work is the possibility of an “F” and if continued late work, then the letter grade may result in a "D."

- I hope to one day show my students how the internet is useful in more ways than just googling. I have learned a lot of YouTube and from reading others blogs, for example Mr. McClung. He has a well kept blog that shows future teachers like myself ways of organizing and getting students to pay attention and want to learn. I hope my future students enjoy blogging and watching YouTube as much as I have.

- Two  links that stuck out to me were TED: Ideas Worth Spreading and Gmail.  I am pretty familiar TED but just this semester I learned about Gmail. I think it's neat how Gmail has so much to offer. I love how YouTube and Blog are connected and once you sign in your signed in for all of them.
-I noticed that most of his rules are not the same as others. I guess he is just secure enough to let his students communicate with others. I know I will be sure to enforce strict rules about using the internet. I will not allow my students to have their last names or where they live on their blogs or any other sites they are connected to.
- I read and comment on the blog post entitled Lessons Learned: March Madness NCAA. Mr. McClung wrote how much he loves basketball. I love basketball and I grew up playing it. I understood where he was coming from. I don't like watching it on TV as much as I love watching it live and partaking in the actual game. I played center and post growing up. Some other  categories under “Lessons Learned,” included 9:23, and Spring Break.
- I thought the drop shots were neat and how he has slide shows on this blog on the left side. I think it would be neat to have as a teacher for sure. I am not sure of anything I would want on my blog that is on his because his is used for educational purposes for his students.
- Mr. McClung’s blog  differs from other teachers because  he has class rules, a syllabus, expectations,students work ,useful links, as well as the computer app available for the parents and student to use when needed. I love how organized his blog is. He does have his students best interest in mind and wants them to become technologically advanced and have one up on most students in the school system today.
-  Mr. McClung's World  is one of the best blogs. I don't think I want to change anything about my blog as of now. His blog is geared more toward his students and is better for educational purposes. I would like to one day make a new blog and direct it toward my students for their use. I like the assignments button the best. I think it is important that students keep track of what is coming up and I like that parents have assess to it and can help out with keeping their children on track!

Mrs. Cassidy's class was so cute. I loved watching the video, Little Kids..Big Potential. I loved watching the youtube video of the children working in the class room. The little voices are so cute and they all seems so happy and ready to learn. This is what truly excites me about teaching. I didn't have computers or videos or the use of internet in my classrooms as I was growing up and I think it would have benefited me and my other classmates tremendously. The Skye interview with Mrs. Cassidy was interesting as well. She talked about how she has been working with all these new technologies and programs with her students. She said she has a had website for 10 years,  a blog for about 5 and a video for about 2 years.I think it is a great idea that the children have blogs they can use. One little boy said he was excited because he knows that people all around the world can see the classroom blog and that he likes when people comment on it.

 Mrs. Cassidy explained how she protects her students from the "bad things" on the internet. She doesn't let  them  use their last name or post a picture. I think this is a good and safe idea. There are so many bad things out on the internet and I myself would want to protect my children from them. She also give some great ideas on how to begin learning and one of the ways was with a PLN. The PLN is very useful! I like having mine and I will use it in my classroom. It is just an easier way to keep track of things. I will also use Skye. I think having other teacher's ideas are important because I know children don't want to listen to me the whole time, plus it gives them something else to watch and listen to so they do not get distracted.

Like Ms. Morgan Bayda, I have had many of my college classroom experiences like the situations Dan was talking  about in his video posted on her blog. I am in class with 50+ students and the professor doesn't bother to make eye contact with me or any of the other students. He just stares straight ahead at the board and talks. Some times I can't even hear or understand what he/she is saying and it's very frustrating! Morgan also makes a great point in her post when she talks about not being encouraged to speak out loud and engage in the topic. I too agreed with many of the topics Dan was talking about during his video. He said that he spent hundreds of dollars on textbooks for courses that he never even opened. I can feel his frustration with that one. Spending way to much money on books is just ridiculous! I too have been able to find more information on the internet and books for free!

Mr. Johnson post was a good one for sure .I know there is so much technology available out there for student It seems silly with all of the technology that is available to students today, but if you take it away for a moment and hand the students a piece of paper and pen then their minds seem to wonder and they become very creative and seem to enjoy it. The students are still having to use spelling and vocabulary and use critical thinking skills. I think just going back to old ways can produce so much more than anyone could imagine.

C4T Summary

My first teacher blog was The Connected Principal by George Couros, is currently a school principal at Forest Green School and Connections for Learning, located in Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada. His blog talks about how teachers need to improve instruction, and need to have teachers spend time in each other’s classrooms. They need to see how students are attending to classroom instruction and activities.  I comment and said I think its a great idea. I think more teachers can learn from one another as well as watching how the students interact and learn.

Post #2 on a teachers blog is on the same on, The Connected Principal by George Couros. I commented on his post entitled, Standing in the back, watching the Screens. He talks about how the students are allowed to use computers in the classroom. He said that there is not restriction on them and the students can view whatever website they choose. Most of the students were playing around on them and not taking notes or using there time wisely with them. He says he is unsure of what to do about the situation. I commented and said thank you for posting and I can see the trouble about having the computers in the classroom. Most of the students in my classes bring their laptops to class and takes notes. Some students just bring them to play around on and they don't pay attention. I said I still don't know how I feel about his situation with his high school students using them. My school didn't allow students to bring laptops to school. I learned the old fashion way and I turned out just fine. I know technology is changing and the opportunity to have computers in schools and using the internet to connect, and share with others is on the rise. I am still at a stand still about the whole situation.

"What I've Learned This Year" by Mr. McClung-
He was a young teacher who was inexperienced and teaching elementary school. His blog is about his first year of teaching. He has 7 main points that he talks about. How to read the Crowd, be flexible, communicate, be reasonable, dont be afraid to use technology, listen to your students, and never stop learning. His first point, how to read a crowd talks about knowing who your audience is. I know it can be hard because you want to impress your superiors and it can take away from getting the point across to the students and making sure they fully understand the lesson. Being flexible means even if the lesson plan didnt turn out the way you wanted, that it's ok. Don't worry about it and just make sure the students comprehended the lesson. Communication, whether with the students or other faculty, be sure you know how to. It can be hard but it makes things run smoother. His 4th point, be reasonable, is understanding that children make mistakes and let them know it's ok and pick them back and try again. Dr. McClung also talks bout using technology and not being afarid to use it. I feel that any technology can futhter help educate my students and I need to be on top of my game knowing how to use and incorporate into my lessons. His 6th point, always listen to your students is the most important one. Teachers dont always know enough about each of their students and they dont know how best they learn. The students need to speak their mind and the teachers need to listen so they can help them learn in any way nessary. The last and final point is never stop learning. People can always change thier way of learning and they can always learn more. "The more I learn, the more I find out what I dont know"-Ashlie Anders. I think that quote speaks volume in the world of education. I know I learn something new everday and that there is so much more that I will never know. I for one will never stop learning new things!

I was Mr. Wolfe class. I commented on a young boy name Joe. He was talking about what he did over the weekend. He had soccer game and also a baseball game. I told him I also enjoy soccer and love to run.

My next assignment was Mrs. Toni Nua, who taught 7/8 year from England School, in Auckland, NZ. The young girl I chose was Tina. She posted on her blog about Christchurch Earthquake. She was upset and was scared it was going to happen in her town. I wrote and said that I live in USA and I have never been in or seen an earthquake and I hoped that It doesn't happen to my town or hers.

1. Watch Richard Miller: This Is How We Dream Parts 1 and 2



 I am excited about teaching and using multimedia in my classroom. Dr. Richard's video shows a lot of visual presentations and He also talks about being on the front edge of it. I like computers and the internet. I love watching videos and exploring different sites. As a future teacher, I want my children to watch different videos and spark up a conversation about it. I think it is a good way to learn. I am more of a hands-on learner, as well as talking it out. Writing for me is how I lay out my day.

I write notes for myself everywhere and I write them 100 times.
The SmartBoard presentation is a good example of writing with multimedia. I wrote out the questions we wanted to ask and then input them into a google form questionnaire. We then transferred that information we received from the questionnaire into a SmartBoard Presentation. I love working with Powerpoint and as of now, SmartBoard. It is fun and makes things more interesting!

2.  EDM310 for Dummies/The Chipper Series: Theses were funny. I have learned a lot about EDM 310 on my own just by reading directions and also looking a previous students blogs. I have learned to be patient when working on my blog and not procrastinate. Some of the assignments take a long time to finish. I never liked blogging before, but this class has made it fun and I do enjoy it now. I think it would be a good idea to shoot a video on how to set up a blog and go over the basic things that one would need to know. I also would love to do a video on the Smart Board. It was hard learning how to work it and play with it. I took some time figuring things out. I know it would be beneficial to future students to know how to work it.

3. Learn to Change, Change to Learn:I don't think kids are not collecting data, and researching outside the class room via Twitter, SMS, etc. I agree that the classroom needs to change and adapt to the changes  technological advances. I think the classroom is sometimes a prison. I know that some teachers and university are making these changes. The students I have to comment about are using these technologies and they are 3rd graders and up! It just makes it more fun for the students to research and it also motivates them. 4. The Secret Powers of Time by Philip Zambardo &The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us.

The PAST< PRESENT<FUTURE- I like how the video is presented. I for one am a hedonist, but I also like to plan ahead and gets things done. What motivates me? I am not sure.All I know is I want to motivate my future students to learn and love to learn. I think that a classroom can have structure and it can also be fun. In the video it talked about how school is a delay of gratification. I fore one feel a sense of gratification the minute I walk outta the classroom knowing I put in 110% effort.

Progress on PLN

Well the progress on my PLN is a good one. I have my facebook, twitter, blog, EDM blog and some other things I use almost everyday. I like having everything right there all in one spot. I can check my mail,  or get on facebook. It helps me remember what I need to do for the day and I can get it done quicker because it is right in front of me and I don't have to type in all the addresses and sign into everything.

Well I have already summerized my first teacher blog in a previous post. I am still trying to figure this whole blogposting schedule out. On the other hand I did read Teacher Tom's blog post on "Why Must We Sit In Our Chairs? The post talked about how children are always on the go and have a hard time sitting still in a classroom setting to do school work. It also talked about different ways teachers can have a classroom setting lecture but have the children sitting on the floor or standing. One teacher commented on this blog and said she had a day called "Messy  Maths." The children didnt have to sit in there chairs for the lesson. I commented and said growing up I had a hard time sitting still in class and doing my assignments. To this day I do not sit down for long while working on projects, etc. I like to walk around the room, think outload and sometimes lean on a counter or desk and work.

Randy Pausch Last Lecture: Achieving Your Childhood Dreams :
His lecture was really inspirational. I like how he started off talking about his childhood dreams
1. Being in zero gravity.
2. Playing in the NFL
3. Authoring an article in the World Book Encyclopedia
4. Being Captain Kirk
5. Winning stuffed animals
6. Being a Disney Imagineer

He also mentioned that he had 10 tumors and he had cancer but that he wasn't going to talk about it. He said we are all everyone is delt a hand of cards and though we cant change them, we can change the way the game is played. He always wanted to be in zero gravity, and never could find the chance, though he continued with his dream and never gave up. He compared it to a brick wall. He said some people give up when they are faced with hard challenges, while others rise to the occasion. I for one can agree and also I myself have been put in difficult situations where I was pretty much stuck between a rock and a hard place. He always wanted to play in the NFL. He said when someone is yelling at you then they haven't given up hope that you will succeed. Its when they stop yelling and coaching you then they have given up. I want to apply this in my classroom. I want to coach my children and never give up on them. Some students may struggle with certain subjects, but I will try my best to help them and coach them through.

I loved how Randy talked about his dream to be  a Disney imagineer. I think all children have fun imaginations and should be praised when they want to draw, paint etc. Randy seemed happy and excited throughout the entire lecture. I loved his positive outlook even though he know he is going to die from the cancer. His excitement about life is very touching and makes me realize at what a good life I have and to take nothing for granted.

1. The Networked Student by Wendy Drexler:
Well, after watching this video I am excited. I love that a student does not have to attend class and still learn. I think this is a great opportunity for students to think outside the box and learn from others. The part in the video where the boy found a lecture from a college professor from Berkley that talks about his major. I think that everyone should have more than one teacher. Students can learn more about their major through the internet and through other teachers. One professors views on a subject may be completley differnt than anothers. I tend to learn more when I go to class. I sometimes have a hard time getting things done when I do not have any motivation. Going to class also breaks my day up and it seems to go by faster. Since I am planning to teach young children, I dont think I will use this technique. Children need to learn structure before they are sent out to do things for themselves.

Her blogging experince and her PLE is pretty neat. I wasnt aware of all the different things you could put on there. I have started on PLN and I do not have a lot of things on there. I am not a computer savy as I would like to be. My EDM310 class has opened my eyes though to a whole new world of the

internet and all the differnt things it has to offer.

Michael Staton, Why Smartboards Are A Dumb Initiative- I can completley agree with this blog. I do think it can get expensive and sometimes the old way works best. Bill Ferriter, Why I Hate Interactive Whiteboards
I think it would be easier for me to use a smartboard for my classroom becuase I plan on teaching younger children. I think the SmartBoard is better geared toward the younger audience because it is interactive and it can be used for more things that children can relate to.

Well since I already blogged about my 1st and 2nd student, I quess I need to tell tell about my third student. Her name is Kaycee! haha! I told her that I loved her name. She is a 5th grade student at Pt England School in Auckland, NZ. She is in Room 14 and her teacher is Ms Squires. She seems like a smart little girl! I commented on her post about her name. She wrote out her name and then wrote the something about herself with the letters in her name. Her blog-site is well put together. Boy would I love to visit New Zealand!

The podcast idea is a great one. I love how you can provide information over the an audio or a video. This type of technology is forever expanding and is becoming the way of the future. The first Podcast I listened to was Eagle Nest Radio & Class Blog from the third graders. I loved how they incorportated music in the background. The children's vocies were so cute. I think it was a fun idea of learning about the Romans and their archieture. The second Podcast I read was Education Podcast Network. This website talked about differnt ways of sharing podcast and how educators can learn new ways of teaching. It had podcast on differnt subjects and how to suggest a podcast to listen to. The third one I watched was 100 Ways to use Your IPod to learn and Study Better. This website talked about ways to study using your IPod. I have an IPod and I havent ever used to study with. This website showed differnt ways to study using Sparknotes, Raybook and different language guides. I have used my Ipod for making movies and audio. I love taking movies on it and then sharing them on the internet.

The student that I chose to comment on was a girl named Kelly. She is in Mrs. Candy Lugrin's 6th grade class from a small town in Saskatchewan, Canada. Kelly wrote about her ski trip she took with her family. She said she had a great time and she skiied well. She also wrote about how her mother and brother were injured during the trip. I responded to her and said I also loved skitrips, although I dont ski, I snowboard. I went back to her blog and she hasnt respondend. I decided to write on another one of her blogs. She wrote about what her pet peeve is. She said she hated when her brother left the toliet seat up and she always fell in! I started laughing so hard. I commented and said that I too hate when that happens!

TEACHER TOM!
Tom Hobson is from Seattle, Washington and teaches preschool. His latest blog is about "Getting Things Done" He has pictures of his students playing outside and "inventing" things. The kids are using their imaginations to built a fort and make things out of sticks. The other pictures of of little girls playing with blocks and pretending to riding horses around the room. Mr Hobson calls this dramatic play. I posted to his blog about how exciting it is to see theses children playing and using their imagination. I hate how when we grow up we tend to lose our creative, "wild" side. Seeing the children play make me very happy and almost wish that I could be a kid again!

Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff. Please?- by Scott McLeod.
This blog was pretty neat. I like the way he had it set up. I agree with his post. I know that the internet can be a scary and dangerous place. Children need to learn how to use it correctly though because it is becoming more and more vital to our society. I think that parents, teachers or care-givers should monitor their children's activity on the internet and also teach them how research material without becoming distracted by all the "bad things."

2. The iSchool Initiative-
I like this video. I am not really sure though if I agree with his argument or or not. I know that the Ipad and Itouch are very useful in finding information and keeping it. I dont think that the schools such just give up on pencil and paper. What if they whole internet just stops working one day. How will the kids know what to do, how can they learn and take notes?
I do agree with getting rid of the heavy costly books and copy machines. I am a big supporter for throwing trash away and conserving our environment. I know the Ipad and Itouch can replace the books and note taking. I myself use the Itouch everyday. I would have to "kinda" agree with this student on his issue.

3. Watch The Lost Generation-

This video reminded me of StarWars. I liked watching the video but it made me mad. I dont want to think that in 10 years Ill be celebrating the anniversary of my divorce or that I will be working more and not spending time with my family. My family is very important to me and so is my relationships. This video may be true for some but I want to make sure that it does not happen to me!

4. Jennifer Chamber’s post and Eric Whitacre’s Virtual Choir- I thought this was really cool. The fact that none of the children/students have met before. I think the world is coming to the point where we may never have to step foot outside our door. We can just get on the internet and Ichat one-another.

5. Teaching in the 21st Century-
To teach in the 21st century is new and exciting to me. I hope to one day never use paper anymore. Conserving our planet is very important to me. I love nature and all it has to offer. Using the SmartBoard for teaching is also very exciting for me as well!

1. Micheal Wesch: A Vision of Students Today
I have been in school for over 18 years. I guess I dont really see anything that is different than before. I see that technology has changed and that people have become smarter. I have always had "big" classes for of students. I think sometimes that is not a good thing. I think I learn better with smaller one-on-one type class.

2.”It’s Not About the Technology” by Kelly Hines
It may not be all about technology but I feel that one should be taught as much as possible. I think that children these days know more than older adults. The world is ever changing and I for one do not want to be behind. I guess I am not a fan of the people who just sit and do nothing and expect others to teach them how to use a computer etc.

3.Karl Fisch: Is It Okay to Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher?

I think this is kinda funny. I guess I don't really have an opinion on this one, although I do think teachers should be illiterate when it comes to technology. I think that the world is forever turning in a computer and one should be able to understand and use technology. Some teachers think that using a PowerPoint is illiterate enough. I pride myself on learning new things everyday. My motto is "practice what you preach." The teachers cant expect students to know everything about a certain subject if they don't.

The Lure of Writing on the Web- Raquel Recuero

The post was asking why do students write blogs, post pictures and communicate over the web and not in a classroom setting. It said that over 80% of students hvae internet access and feel the need to express themselves via the internet. It talked a lot about kids feeling that need to be accepted and wanted. They achieve that by blogging, writing songs, ect and posting them on the internent. I commented and said that I think students can hid behind the computer and not really be seen. They can be who they wanna be and no one can judge them by their looks or personality.

Why Teach- Cathy Davidson
This post talked about different ways of allowing students to learn. She allowed some of her students to teach apart of the class. They were the leaders for that week and then the next week 2 more students would teach the class.Everyone eventually had a chance to explore a topic, method, or idea that they have not tried before.
I commented and said I thought that this was a wonderful idea. I loved the fact the students were teaching because it brought a differnt "flow" to the class room. It allowed the other students to maybe understand the concept being taught in a differnt way.

 This video was pretty neat. It shows that the world is ever evolving and we continue to grow.

I think it is funny how we are learning things and being taught things that in a couple of years

will be outdated and no longer vaild. The fact that we spend most of our life in school and learing about things

that have already happend doesnt seem to make since. If the world is changing and new technology is emerining everyday then whats the point in learning the old things. We are creating new jobs everyday just so

people can have one and its pretty interesting that in 2004 half the jobs that are out there now didnt even exist.

Back twenty years ago there was not computers in the classroom and there was not internet access. The world is quickly evolving into a robot run world. Classrooms now have PowerPoint presentations insead of the teachers writing on the chalk boards and having handouts for notes. I like that things have gotten easier, such as writing papers. Computers are now used for everything. No more handwriting or time consuming assignments.

Children are not afraid to be wrong. I think it is important that kids have a lot of creativity. All children are eventually taught out of being creativite and expressing their views and ideas. I still to this day love drawing and imagining things that are not of this world, as almost living in a different world. I think letting children be who they are and not what we want them to be is better. We are all cookiecutters of on another. There are so few people now adays that have different opinions on things. No one can stand up for themselves or what they believe in becuase we are afraid to be wrong.

The three myths of creativity-everyone is creativity, creavitity with anything, and being able to teach it.

I think that is sad that the US has such a high drop out rate. I like the idea of taking kids on more field trips and letting them explore nature and ancient artifacts. Learing others cultures is also important. Understanding where other people come from and what there day to day is like would help the bullying, and or dismissal of others. I think that more school should have more art class. I only know of a few schools with theses classes. There is also only a few colleges with this certain major.

HARNESS YOUR STUDENTS DIGITIAL SMARTS-by Vicki Davis
The world is evolving into a "comptuer." So why not encourage the students to learn how to work a computer and how to use it to their advantages. I agree with Vicki when she said that only using papers and pensils will only allow some students to suceed. Not all students learn in one way. Digi Teen is pretty neat. I like the students are posting there assignments and blogs and its also allowing them to study with other students.

A little about me!

My name is Casey. I was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. I have only lived in Mississippi until a year ago I moved to Mobile, AL. I decided to move here, to Mobile, to be closer to my boyfriend who lives in Daytona, FL. He attends Palmer Chiropractic. I decided I wanted to be a teacher when I was 10 years old. I have always enjoyed learning and I also enjoy teaching others. I grew up in church helping the younger children and working in the nursery.
I think it takes a special person to be a teacher. I have had teachers in the past that are not very good at instructing or helping with the learning process. I want to be one of the teachers that children love and really enjoy. After all, they are the future! My family is very important to me. I have one younger sister who is in law school at OLE MISS! Hotty Toddy! My mother and father live in Madison, MS with my 6 cats and 2 dogs! I am a huge animal lover and a big supporter of the Animal Resuce League! I enjoy the outdoors and love all sports! I grew up playing soccer and tennis and still to this day enjoy it!! I love music and going to concerts! My favorite band is WideSpreadPanic! I love all music but their music is very relaxing and makes me feel at ease!
